Avenue 209 Coffeehouse started out as a idea and a dream from two friends who wanted to both own a coffeehouse and make a difference in the community. Josh Grimes had always wanted to open a coffeehouse and have his own business. When Josh followed his calling to become a Pastor of a church, he felt his dream may never come into being.

When Josh and other members of his church were reevaluating their approach and looking to try something drastically different with their shrinking congregation size, the idea was brought to him of opening up a coffeehouse. Fellow church member Jared Conti also had wanted to open a coffeehouse and had past experience at another similar establishment. The two gained much insight and knowledge after attending a Coffee School that the church sent them to. This school covered areas such as creating the specialty drinks and running a small business like a coffee shop. After looking around Lock Haven, and doing the necessary market research they decided on their present location. The building needed major renovations and improvements before the business could be opened and much help was provided by congregation members. The business was planned to open in October of 2011, however due to zoning issues because of lack of parking space the planned opening was delayed. After resolve by explanation that much of the business is walk-in walk-out type, the coffeehouse officially opened on Valentine’s Day 2009.

The coffeehouse has offered a variety of coffee drinks and small food menu since the opening. Changes to the menu have been made as they went along in order to best accommodate customers desires. Such menu changes include adding ice cream during the summer of 2013, switching from Perry’s to Hershey’s ice cream, dropping Paniniļæ½s and adding bagel sandwiches to the menu as a lunch item, roasting their own coffee beans in 2011, and the always changing baked goods selection.
